Neurotoxin
Conveniently located to serve the areas of Los Gatos, Danville and San Jose

Neurotoxin injections are a type of cosmetic procedure that helps relax the facial muscles, smoothing out wrinkles and creases. Dysport and Botox are two of the most popular neurotoxin treatments available, with both treatments being derived from the protein Botulinum toxin A. These treatments work by temporarily paralyzing the muscles responsible for repeated, routine facial expressions, reducing visible signs of aging while simultaneously preventing new ones from forming, as well as older ones from getting worse. Neurotoxins are a highly popular treatment, being the country’s most widely performed minimally invasive, cosmetic procedure in both 2022 and 2023, with over 9.4 million injections performed in 2023 alone. About Neurotoxins
Neurotoxins are a type of treatment designed to help reduce visible signs of aging by stopping the movements of facial muscles. When injected, neurotoxins help block a neurotransmitter called acetylcholine, which is responsible for muscle contractions. Our practice offers both Botox and Dysport to help each patient achieve facial rejuvenation.
About Botox
Botox is a neurotoxin that can be used to help relax muscles in the face, reducing their appearance. This treatment is very precise when delivered, making it ideal for targeting specific wrinkles or when being used in smaller treatment areas. Botox is very effective when treating areas such as the forehead or “11 lines” between the eyebrows. Unlike other injectables, Botox is the only FDA-approved neurotoxin with the most indications, used for cosmetic treatment of: forehead lines, lines between the brows, lateral canthal lines, “crows feet” and platysma bands, or the vertical lines that can appear on the neck.
About Dysport
Dysport is an injection designed to help patients achieve smoother skin. Compared to Botox, this formula is ideal for treating larger areas, like the forehead, as its composition allows it to spread out more easily. This treatment takes effect quickly, with many patients seeing noticeable changes just 2-4 days after their treatment.
Benefits of Neurotoxins
There are many benefits patients can experience after receiving our neurotoxin injections, including:
- A Minimally Invasive Approach: This procedure offers significant results without visible scarring or the use of incisions.
- Quick Treatment Duration: Both Botox and Dysport take less than 15 minutes to administer, and neither treatment is associated with any downtime.
- Long-Lasting Results: The result of your neurotoxin injection can last for several months. The results of both Botox and Dysport usually last for up to 3-4 months, with many patients seeing results for longer with Botox. (3, 4)
- Smoother Skin: Patients will be able to experience an improvement in their facial aesthetics as their muscles relax. This not only reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, but also prevents new ones from forming.
- Enhanced Confidence: Many patients often experience an improvement in their self-esteem and confidence after their neurotoxin treatment takes effect.

Ideal Candidates
Ideal candidates for neurotoxin injectables are those interested in reducing the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, creases, and other visible signs of aging on the face. Those interested in minimally invasive or non-surgical procedures are recommended for this treatment, as well as busier patients who may not have the time for a lengthy procedure or recovery.
All candidates interested in our neurotoxin injectables should be in good overall health with realistic expectations regarding their results. Our injections are not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women, as well as candidates with certain underlying health conditions. (3) Patients who do not qualify for this treatment are still recommended to reach out so that our team may find a suitable alternative for them. Candidacy will be determined by our team at each patient’s consultation.
Personal Consultation
Each patient is asked to schedule a personal consultation with our team before undergoing our neurotoxin treatments. During this meeting, each patient will be asked about their medical history, concerns, and aesthetic goals before our staff performs a comprehensive examination. Our nurse injector will then establish a treatment plan, tailoring each aspect to help each patient achieve their aesthetic goals. Preparation and recovery instructions, as well as an all-inclusive quote, will also be provided and discussed with each individual.
To schedule your consultation at either our Danville (near Walnut Creek) or Los Gatos office, please call (925) 905-9922 or contact us online.
We also offer complimentary phone consultations for our out-of-state and international patients.
Preparation
Before their scheduled appointment, each patient will receive a set of instructions and guidelines to properly prepare for their injections. Patients should ensure they are following all instructions given by a member of our team for the best possible outcome. Medications and supplements containing blood-thinning properties should be avoided several days before treatment, in addition to harsh skincare products, such as retinoids and exfoliants. Individuals should take extra care in wearing the proper sun protection when going outside, as sun damage can lead to the postponement of the procedure itself. On the day of the appointment, each patient should arrive with a clean face, free of any makeup or skincare products.
Procedure
Each patient’s treatment will begin with the cleansing and sterilization of their skin. A topical anesthetic may be applied to help minimize any discomfort, however, many patients do not find this step necessary. A nurse injector will use a fine needle to measure out the correct amount of formula, before injecting it into areas of the face that experience more movement, reducing visual signs of aging. This procedure is quick in duration, lasting 10-15 minutes, depending on the number of injections being received. Some patients may need multiple injection sessions to achieve their desired effects.
Recovery and Results

As there is no downtime associated with neurotoxins, each patient will be able to return to their daily schedule immediately following their treatment. A set of post-treatment guidelines will be provided at each patient’s consultation, however, recovery is quite minimal and straightforward. Patients will need to avoid touching, massaging, or putting pressure on the treatment area for the first 24 hours of recovery. Light redness, bruising, or swelling may be experienced at each injection site, but these effects can be managed through the use of over-the-counter medications.
Initial results may be seen several days after injection, but the final results may not be seen for several weeks until the formula has settled and facial muscles have relaxed. It can take up to two weeks for Dysport and Botox to fully take effect.
A more revitalized, youthful appearance can be seen as visible wrinkles and creases are reduced, and new ones are prevented from forming. Results last for several months before patients are recommended to return for re-injection. To preserve the effects of their treatment, patients are strongly recommended to use sun protection when going outside.
Corresponding Procedures
Many treatments can be performed in conjunction with either our Dysport or Botox injections for full facial rejuvenation. Popular corresponding procedures include dermal fillers, as well as our laser and light treatments.
