PDO Thread Lifting and Collagen Production with NovaThreads Swan Medical Danville or Los Gatos

A polydioxanone (PDO) thread lift with NovaThreads is a non-surgical treatment that lifts the skin and stimulates collagen production to diminish signs of aging. As you age, the collagen and elastin–proteins in your skin that help it maintain its elasticity–decline, often leading to fine lines, wrinkles, and laxity that can affect your appearance. Threads can address mild laxity without general anesthesia or long recovery periods, making them an ideal treatment for patients who wish to enhance their appearance.

At Swan Medical, we have helped thousands of patients improve their appearance with customizable skin rejuvenation therapies. PDO threads are an effective treatment that has helped thousands of patients rejuvenate their skin by addressing their unique goals.

About NovaThreads

NovaThreads can offer natural-looking improvements by lifting the skin with small, specialized threads. We can place the threads beneath the skin on the cheeks, jawline, and/or neck for a noticeable lift. The threads stimulate collagen production and tighten the skin to diminish fine lines and wrinkles for a more youthful-looking appearance. Increasing the collagen in your skin can improve skin texture and radiance, though uneven skin tone from pigmentation may require additional treatments.

PDO threads are made of biodegradable materials that are compatible with your body. (1) NovaThreads come in different sizes and shapes to help you address various signs of aging while reducing total downtime. (2)

NovaThreads vs. Facelifts

Unlike a traditional facelift that uses excisional techniques to tighten the skin by excising droopy tissue and adjusting the underlying connective tissue, NovaThreads only require small entry points along the natural curves of your face. This reduces the recovery time patients require, which also helps them to see their results sooner. Additionally, NovaThread treatments do not require general anesthesia. Patients can undergo treatment with only local anesthetics applied to the face, meaning they do not have to prepare extensively beforehand.

Benefits

There are several benefits of NovaThreads, which include:

  • Natural-looking results: We can address mild skin laxity with threads for natural-looking results.
  • Customizable treatment: We can select the length, shape, and size of the thread based on your unique underlying anatomy and aesthetic goals.
  • Improved skin quality: Raising your skin’s collagen levels can help you achieve a more even skin tone and smoother skin texture.
  • Minimal downtime: You can return to most of your normal activities within a few days, if not immediately.
  • Smoother skin: Lifting the skin can reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.

Candidates

Anyone who would like to address mild skin laxity and refresh their appearance to diminish signs of aging can be eligible for a PDO thread treatment. If you are in good overall health and you have realistic expectations about what you can achieve with the treatment, you are likely a good fit. Most candidates are seeking a nonsurgical solution to loose skin rather than a more invasive surgical treatment.

Personal Consultation

During your consultation, we will discuss your aesthetic goals, medications, and medical history to create the most effective treatment plan. Please come prepared to discuss your aesthetic goals in depth, as well as any questions you have about the treatment. We can also discuss combining your treatment with other skin rejuvenation therapies and/or dermal fillers for enhanced results.

Preparation

The preparation process for PDO threads is simple. You will need to take good care of your skin and avoid excessive sun exposure in the weeks leading up to your appointment. You will also need to refrain from using retinoids and/or receiving abrasive spa treatments that could compromise the integrity of your skin. You will need to stop drinking alcohol for 24-48 hours before the treatment. If you take blood-thinning medications and/or supplements, you will need to stop temporarily. We will ask about your skincare routine to determine the most effective treatment plan for your aesthetic goals.

Treatment Process

On the day of your treatment, you will need to arrive with clean skin. We will cleanse your skin and apply a topical anesthetic as well as local anesthesia. We will mark the thread entry points on your skin to ensure placement accuracy. Once marked, we place the threads beneath the skin. As your body forms collagen around the threads, they will tighten and lift the skin, resulting in smooth, natural-looking skin showcasing diminished or erased wrinkles, and more.

After Your Treatment

Afterward, you can return to most of your usual activities as long as you avoid excessive sun exposure that could damage your skin. The threads will stimulate collagen production to improve the elasticity of your skin for a more youthful-looking appearance. Within 10–15 days, the threads begin to stimulate fibroblast activity, and over the next several months, collagen production increases around them. Since the threads are biodegradable, they will gradually dissolve.

Results

PDO Thread Lifting and Collagen Production with NovaThreads Swan Medical Danville or Los Gatos

You can enjoy smoother, tighter, more youthful-looking skin after receiving threads. To maintain your results, you will need to take good care of your skin. Since the threads increase your skin’s collagen, you can enjoy a lasting improvement in your appearance. However, if you experience changes to your appearance over time from aging or continued sun exposure, we can help you maintain your results by placing additional threads during a touch-up appointment.

Additional Skin Rejuvenation Treatments

Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers add natural-looking volume to your skin for a plumper, more youthful-looking appearance. As you age, volume loss in the cheeks, temples, and lips can result in an aged and deflated appearance. We can administer various formulas designed for both delicate and deep tissue to replace lost volume and stimulate collagen production to renew a youthful look.

Botox

Botox limits repetitive muscle movements to reduce the formation of fine lines and wrinkles by limiting acetylcholine release. By combining PDO threads with Botox, you can prevent further wrinkles and fine lines from developing.

SkinPen

SkinPen is a microneedling treatment that increases your skin’s collagen levels with tiny needles that penetrate the skin. Microneedling can address fine lines, wrinkles, and mild laxity for a smoother, more youthful-looking appearance. Many patients receive a series of microneedling treatments to gradually raise their skin’s collagen levels as they approach their desired results. SkinPen can also address the delicate areas around the eyes that are prone to wrinkling without invasive treatment.

FAQ

Can I remove PDO threads at any time?

Threads are biocompatible, meaning your body absorbs them over time. Although we can remove them if they were recently placed, we will need to examine your skin before doing so. Waiting for them to dissolve is often the easier solution. If you are curious about how PDO thread removal works, ask a specialist during your personal consultation.

Are PDO threads painful?

We administer a local anesthetic for a comfortable treatment when placing PDO threads. During the procedure, some patients report a slight pressure or pulling sensation, but not pain. However, you may experience some minor skin irritation after treatment.

Are PDO threads effective for all skin types?

PDO threads are well-tolerated and effective for most skin types. However, we will need to perform a physical examination of your skin to determine the most effective treatment plan for your goals.

How long do PDO threads last?

PDO threads themselves last for several months, but they will dissolve over time. However, the rejuvenating effects of the PDO threads continue to provide benefits for as long as 3 years in some patients. Patient experiences may vary.

Are PDO threads customizable for my skin type?

PDO threads are personalized for your skin type and underlying anatomy. We can adjust the length or number of threads to address skin laxity in different areas for natural-looking results.

Can I combine PDO threads with other treatments?

Yes, some patients also choose to receive dermal fillers or injectable wrinkle relaxers with PDO threads to enhance their appearance. If you are interested in combining your PDO thread lift with another procedure, speak to your specialist during your personal consultation.

How often will I need touch-up appointments for PDO threads?

This depends on your individual needs and aesthetic preferences, but most patients return every few years for touch-up appointments.
